Peace be upon us and upon the righteous slaves of Allah. I bear witness that there is none worthy of worship but Allah, and I bear witness that Muhammad is His slave and His Messenger."

Surah Fatiha - The Opening

All praise is to Allah, the Lord Of The Creation. The Most Gracious, the Most Merciful, Owner of the Day of Recompense, You alone we worship and from You alone we seek help, Guide us on the Straight Path, The path of those whom You have favoured, Not the path of those who earned Your anger - nor of those who are astray.

Surah Duha - Late morning

By oath of the late morning, And by oath of the night when it covers, Your Lord has not forsaken you nor does He dislike you! And indeed the latter is better for you than the former. And indeed your Lord will soon give you so much that you will be pleased. Did He not find you an orphan, so provided you shelter? And found you deeply engrossed in His love, so directed you? And found you in need, so made you prosperous? Therefore do not oppress the orphan. And do not rebuke the beggar. And abundantly proclaim the favours of your Lord.

Surah Nashr - The Widening

Did We not widen your chest for you? And relieve you of the burden Which had broken your back? And We have exalted your remembrance for you So indeed with hardship is ease. Indeed with hardship is ease. So when you finish the prayer, strive in supplication. And incline towards your Lord.

Surah Tein - The Olive

By oath of the fig and of the olive, And by oath of Mount Sinai, And by oath of this secure land, We have indeed created man in the best shape. We then turned him towards all the lowest of the low states. Except those who accepted faith and did good deeds – for them is an infinite reward. So after this, what causes you to deny the judgement? Is not Allah the Greatest Judge upon all judges?

Surah Alaq - The Clot

Read with the name of your Lord Who created, Created man from a clot. Read, and your Lord only is the Most Beneficent, The One Who taught to write with the pen. The One Who taught man all what he did not know. Yes indeed, man is surely rebellious. As he considers himself independent! Indeed towards your Lord only is the return.
What is your opinion – regarding him who forbids A bondman when he offers the prayer? What is your opinion – if he were upon guidance, He would enjoin piety, so how good it would be! What is your opinion – if he denies and turns away, how wretched will be his state! Did he not realise that Allah is watching? Yes certainly, if he does not desist, We will seize him by the forelock. A forelock that lies, is sinful. So let him now call his gang! We will now call the guards! Yes indeed; do not listen to him - and prostrate, and become close to Us. (Command of Prostration)

Surah Qadr - The Destiny

We have indeed sent down the Qur’an in the Night of Destiny.
And what have you understood, what the Night of Destiny is!
The Night of Destiny is better than a thousand months.
In it descend the angels and Jibreel, by the command of their Lord – for all works. It is peace until the rising of dawn.

Surah Bayyinah - Clear Proof

The disbelieving People of the Book(s) and the polytheists would not have left their religion until the clear proof came to them.
(The clear proof is) the Noble Messenger from Allah, who reads the pure pages.
In which are written proper affairs.
Nor did the People of the Book(s) get divided until after the clear proof came to them.
And they were ordered only to worship Allah, believing purely in Him – devoted solely (to Him), and to establish the prayer and to pay the obligatory charity – and this is the straight religion.
Indeed all disbelievers, the People of the Book(s) and the polytheists, are in the fire of hell – they will remain in it for ever; it is they who are the worst among the creation.
Indeed those who accepted faith and did good deeds – it is they who are the best among the creation.
Their reward is - with their Lord - everlasting Gardens of Eden beneath which rivers flow, in which they will abide for ever and ever; Allah is pleased with them and they are pleased with Him; this is for one who fears his Lord.

Surah Zilzal - The Earthquake

When the earth is shaken with its appointed tremor.
And the earth throws out its burdens.
And man says, “What has happened to it?”
On that day earth will narrate its news,
Because your Lord sent a command to it.
On that day men will return towards their Lord, in different groups, in order to be shown their deeds.
So whoever does a good deed equal to the weight of the minutest particle, will see it.
And whoever does an evil deed equal to the weight of the minutest particle, will see it.

Surah Adiyat - The Sprinters

By oath of those that sprint, breathing heavily. (The horses used in Holy War.)
Striking stones with their hooves, sparking fire.
And by oath of those who raid at dawn.
So thereupon raising dust.
Then penetrate to the centre of the enemy army.
Indeed man is very ungrateful towards his Lord.
And indeed he himself is a witness to it.
And indeed he loves wealth to the extreme.
So does he not know? When those in the graves are raised,
And all what lies in the breasts is opened
On that day their Lord surely knows all about them!

Surah Qariah - The Terriying Event

The event that terrifies the hearts!
What is the event that terrifies the hearts?
And what have you understood, what the event that terrifies the hearts is!
The day when men will be like scattered moths.
And mountains will be like flying wool.
So for one whose scales prove heavy,
He is therefore in the desired bliss.
And for one whose scales prove light,
He is in the lap of one that abases.
And what have you understood, what the one that abases is!
A flaming fire!

Surah Takasur - The Excess

The craving for excess wealth kept you people neglectful.
Until you confronted the graves.
Yes certainly, you will soon realise!
Again, yes certainly, you will soon realise!
Yes certainly, if you had believed with certainty, you would not have craved for wealth.
Indeed you will see hell.
Again, indeed you will see it with certainty.
Then, on that day, you will surely be questioned regarding the favours.

Surah Humazah - The Slanderer

Ruin is for every open slanderer, backbiter.
Who accumulated wealth and hoarded it, counting.
Does he think that his wealth will prolong his stay on earth forever?
Never! He will certainly be thrown into the Crushing One.
And what have you understood what the Crushing One is!
The fire of Allah, that is ablaze.
Which will climb on to the hearts.
Indeed it will be shut over them.
In extended columns.

Surah Background:

Summary: Revealed at the time when people would mock
one another based on their personality, status and possessions.

Surah Feel - The Elephant

O dear Prophet, did you not see how did your Lord deal with the People of the Elephant?
Did He not put their scheme into ruin?
And send flocks of birds upon them,
Which hit them with stones of baked clay,
So He made them like the leftover devoured leaves of farms?

Surah Background:
A man called Abrahah ruled Yemen. He was really jealous of Makkah because so many people from around the world would visit the Kabah He prepared a very big and powerful army to attack Makkah. He even took a huge elephant with him to destroy the Kabah, but Allah sent birds from the sea to attack him. Each bird carried three small stones to punish them.

frofn hunger and kept them safe during their Journey These good things were given to them because
of the House of Allah, and that they were it's people.

Just look at him, who belies the religion!

Surah Lahab - Ember

May both the hands of Abu Lahab be destroyed – and he is destroyed!
His wealth did not benefit him in the least, nor did whatever he earned.
He will soon enter the flaming fire.
And so will his wife; carrying a bundle of firewood on her head.
A rope made from palm fibre around her neck!

Surah Background:
The prophet had an evil uncle (Abu Lahab) and an evil ant who were very rich and had many children His aunt would gather lots of wood and throw them into the path of the prophet.

One day the prophet went to the top of the mountain and told the people of Quraysh that Allah had sent him to save them from a great punishment.

Abu Lahab stood up and dusted his hands and shouted 'Have you gathered us for this? May you perish'

Then Allah revealed this Surah.
